Trial Court Departments Issue New Standing Orders to Address Emergency Matters

BOSTON, MA -- In accordance with the Order issued today by the Supreme Judicial Court providing that, from March 18, 2020 until at least April 6, 2020, Massachusetts courts will be closed to the public, except to conduct emergency hearings that cannot be resolved through a videoconference or telephonic hearing. Individual clerks' offices will be open to accept emergency pleadings, to address questions and to assist with videoconference or telephonic hearings. Read Full Article

Supreme Judicial Court Issues Order Restricting Court Appearances to Emergency Matters

BOSTON, MA -- The Supreme Judicial Court today ordered that, because of the public health emergency arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, beginning tomorrow (March 18, 2020) and until at least April 6, 2020, the only matters that will be heard in-person in Massachusetts state courthouses are emergency matters that cannot be held by videoconference or telephone. Press Release: Trial Court Issues Emergency Administrative Orders

Trial Court Chief Justice Paula M. Carey has issued a series of Emergency Orders for effect on a temporary basis to address several administrative issues. All courts are closed to the public on March 16 and 17 to protect court users and court staff from the spread of the coronavirus consistent with the declared state of emergency at the state and federal levels.
