The busy week began on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 with “Rethinking Reasonable Accommodation in Housing” featuring Catherine F. Downing, Esq., Law Offices of Catherine F. Downing & Associates, Hon. Jeffrey M. Winik, First Justice, Housing Court Department, Dan Bancroft, Esq., Broderick Bancroft, Alex Mitchell-Munevar, Esq., Greater Boston Legal Services, Ruth Harel-Garvey, Tenancy Preservation Program, Bay Cove Human Services, Inc.  The program featured a lively discussion between the faculty on the panel, as well as the panel and audience.

The same night Social Law members logged on to join Nixon Peabody LLP’s Jonathan Sablone for the “Predictive Coding and E-Discovery: Save Time, Save Money, and Win” webinar.  In this fast-paced webinar, Mr. Sablone – the state’s foremost expert on e-discovery – explains how to use the software, how to refine it to identify the relevant material and exclude the chaff, and how to efficiently save time and money.

The next night Attorney Stephen J. Carley, Worcester District Attorney’s Office, Hon. Elspeth B. Cypher, Massachusetts Appeals Court, Hon. Kenneth V. Desmond, Jr., Superior Court, Hon. Dana M. Gershengorn, Juvenile Court, and Attorney Lynn S. Muster, Massachusetts Appeals Court took the stage for the “Emerging Issues in Criminal Trials and Appeals.”  The faculty, representing both sides of the bar as well as the bench, discussed cell phone searches, closed courtroom issues, new changes to Mass.R.Crim.P. 12, emerging emphasis on the rehabilitative goal of the Juvenile Court, and new changes to eyewitness testimony.

The week closed out with a presentation on witness preparation by Holland & Knight’s Dan Small.  “Witness Prep 101” treated attendees to an immersive multimedia presentation on advanced witness preparation techniques.  One attendee exclaimed, “Excellent – well run – I always enjoy the Social Law Library Seminars – insightful and helpful.  Makes me think.”

The Library would like to thank the panels and attendees for making this week a resounding success.  Please visit www.socialaw.com/education to see a list of our upcoming events.  Social Law looks forward to seeing you in the future!
