This presentation will explore lawyers’ ethical duties with regard to using technology in their practice with substantial focus on the increasing use of generative artificial intelligence. Presenters will provide insight into various technological issues that lawyers face regardless of practice area and will provide practical tips for mitigating risks associated with technology use.
Topics include:
- The duty of technology competence
- Protecting client information
- Communication with clients about technology related issues
- Duties relating to supervision and creating technology focused policies
- The risks of generative AI and suggestions for mitigating those risks
- Duties to courts and others when using technology, and especially AI in litigation
- Selected court and disciplinary decisions
CPCS approved 2.0 credits per session for the Criminal Trials and Appeals, YAD Trials and Appeals, Mental Health Trials and Appeals, SDP/SORB and CAFL panels.
