Divorce practice is unique in its intersection of numerous legal disciplines traditionally taught across the law school curriculum, including contracts, property, taxation, and evidence. As a result, family law practitioners must develop a working knowledge of a wide range of substantive and procedural topics while also navigating the emotional and practical realities that often accompany domestic relations matters.
Whether you are a newly admitted attorney with an interest in family law, a practitioner considering expanding your practice into this area, or an attorney seeking a structured refresher, this program is designed to provide a clear and practical roadmap for handling your first divorce case with confidence.
This seminar will guide participants through the full life cycle of a typical divorce matter, beginning with the initial client intake and case assessment. On day one, faculty will address early strategic considerations, including jurisdiction, venue, and the selection of appropriate temporary relief, as well as discovery, financial statements, and custody considerations. On day two, we will explore motion practice, settlement negotiations, trial preparation, and modification and enforcement issues.
Throughout the seminar, panelists will share practical tips, common pitfalls to avoid, and best practices drawn from real-world experience, equipping attendees with the foundational tools necessary to competently and effectively manage a divorce case from start to finish.
