The law of evidence in child protective cases--both parental unfitness and termination of parental rights (TPR) proceedings--has become so particularized that an understanding of the general principles of evidence is not sufficient for those who practice this specialty. 

Indeed, the body of C&P and TPR evidentiary law has become so enlarged and specialized that theSupreme Judicial Court Advisory Committee on Massachusetts Evidence has expanded the forthcoming 2015 edition of the Massachusetts Guide to Evidence to include an entirely new section to explicate "Evidentiary Issues in Care and Protection and Termination of Parental Rights Cases." 

This CLE will survey the major cases and evidentiary concepts outlined in new chapter of the Guide. Taught by three judges, the presentations will include not only the evidentiary principles outlined in theGuide, but also indispensable practice tips when they arise during pretrial and at trial.
