Annotated, Title 8, West Publishing
The Supreme Judicial Court created the Board of Bar Overseers in 1974 to
investigate complaints against lawyers. Decisions of the Board are released
irregularly. Opinions are available in bound form from 1974 to within one year
of the current year. The bound volumes contain indexes that can be searched by
DR (former code) number.

2. Massachusetts Bar Association Ethics Opinions
The Mass. Bar Association Committee on Professional Ethics prepares these
opinions upon request. They cannot be Shepardized, but there is a searchable
index. Earlier opinions are published in a bound volume entitled Opinions of
the Committee on Professional Ethics, 1973-1993. The opinions are also
published in Massachusetts Law Review and summarized in Mass. Lawyers Weekly
and in the ABA/BNA Lawyers Manual on Professional Conduct, REF KF305 .A8
A22. The opinions are also available on the Massachusetts Bar Association
website, http://www.massbar.org. Opinions dating from 1973 are searchable by
keyword or by opinion number.

The American Bar Association Model Code of Professional
Responsibility, originally adopted in 1969, was last amended in 1980. In
August 1983, the ABA replaced the Model Code with the Model Rules of
Professional Conduct. Bound copies of the Code and Rules can be found at
the Reference Desk. The current Rules are also published in the
Martindale-Hubbell Law Digest.
CITATOR: The Code and Rules can be Shepardized using
Shepards Professional and Judicial Conduct Citations, located at
the Reference Desk. State jurisdictions that have adopted the Code may vary the
wording slightly.
