On May 22, 2012 the Social Law Library presented a sold-out CLE program dealing with false and forced confessions. A panel of advocates, investigators and experts discussed the subject, highlighted by the presentation of a dramatic police interrogation of a 16-year-old mother who was coerced into the confession of killing her infant son. Edward P. Ryan, the woman’s lawyer, described his involvement in the case and David Boeri detailed the effort made to secure the videotaped confession that ultimately set the woman free. Other topics included the evolving law of confessions, courtroom procedure for suppression hearings, the proper limits of police interrogations, and expert observations on false and forced confessions.  Attendees were granted CLE credits for criminal and juvenile delinquency trail level and post-conviction panels.
